In this folder, you will find ImageBase-Pro PLAYER, a tool to allow any Macintosh user to read image sets exported by ImageBase-Pro image database users. This application is specially optimised for PowerPC processor-based Macintosh but it can also be used on 68K processor-based Macintosh.
The "IBP Player Documents" folder contains a set of about fifty images with their textual data as they were exported from an ImageBase-Pro database. You will be able to explore this image selection using a contact sheet, display images one by one or in diaporama, show the associated data of every image or make it open by your favourite image processing software. Try to open your own images with ImageBase-Pro Player, you will realise that it recognises most of the standard image file formats and that it can load and display multi-megabyte images in seconds !
In this file is also included a complete ImageBase-Pro database description that will tell you more about a lot of functions of this software…
• check that QuickTime is correctly installed in your system
• copy the "ImageBase-Pro" folder on your main disk
• open the "Documents IBP Player" folder inside the "ImageBase-Pro" folder
• drop the "->Drop into IBP Player" document into the "IBP Player" application icon
• a couple of seconds later, a contact sheet will show you the thumbnails of the image set used for this demonstration
• you can configure the contact sheet display by using the "Contact Sheet" menu
• four icons at the bottom of the contact sheet window allow you to select that action that will be accomplished when you will double-click on a thumbnail :
• you can select several images in the contact sheet and display them in a diaporama by the "Diaporama" item of the "Contact Sheet" menu.
• you can directly open image or movie files from "ImageBase-Pro Player" (or drop files on the application icon), it will display them into separate windows.
ImageBase-Pro V.2 is the most powerful Image Database Management System (IDMS) in the ORKIS product line. It can archive several hundred of thousands of multimedia documents, either in mono-user or in client-server architecture. It offers thematic linking but also some powerful indexation techniques such as hierarchic keyword dictionary. It offers several searching methods such as global research, multi-criteria, full text, … It is the favourite work group productivity tool for image professionals who want to meet the image database retrieval speed and the optimal safety of their photographic capital.
ImageBase-Pro v2 is especially optimised to take full advantage of the processing power and the user-friendliness of Macintosh computers. It requires System 7 and the QuickTime™ extension and can be used on all 68030, 68040 or PowerPC processor-based Macintosh computers. If you use it on a Power Macintosh, you will notice that image processing, a very time consuming task, is most of the time four times faster than on an equivalent 680x0 based Macintosh. Of course, image processing is not the only accelerated part of the software, the overall user responsiveness has been substantially improved by the performance increase of the Power Macintosh computers, especially in the client server configuration. ImageBase-Pro Server on a Power Macintosh is able to serve more clients simultaneously and to provide them bigger images at two to four times the speed of 680x0 based Macintosh.
ImageBase-Pro v2 identifies all image and multimedia documents. It archives data on dedicated volumes and offers them to multiple clients using sophisticated algorithms to maximise consultation speed. You can select and consult certain images, send them to a distant Macintosh, import them and modify them in Adobe Photoshop™ using a special plug-in. It is possible to digitalize an existing image on film or paper and to archive it without leaving the application. If the image is already in digital form, whatever its format or size, ImageBase-Pro will recognise it, optionally compress it using any QuickTime™ compatible algorithm and archive it on a safe archive volume.
ImageBase-Pro provides a large set of tools to sort, identify and retrieve quickly the archived images. Without changing its work methods, users can identify images using thematic linking, associate text or keywords and store data into the various fields provided in the image or thematic records…
ImageBase-Pro v2 can use text processing or spreadsheet generated files to read in values and put them into records. Users can at first create empty records, fill them automatically using the file values and associate later the images to the records. To retrieve images, ImageBase-Pro offers the most powerful functions such as global, multi-criteria or full text search. It can build at first a set of candidate images and extract the best fitting by directly choosing them into the contact sheet.
ImageBase-Pro v2 allows user to consult the entire image database, to compare images by displaying them into separate windows, to print contact sheets or image records containing all the associated data on all Apple-compatible monochrome or color printers. ImageBase-Pro can also export images and change their file format to fit the destination application.
ImageBase-Pro v2 provides full customisation of the fields and records names that will appear in the lists, search dialogs or menus. All ImageBox and ImageBase databases can be upgraded to ImageBase-Pro database, so that user can start with low-cost database and always have the kind of software that best fits their needs.
A graphic annotation module allows users to mark and identify some parts of the image. Each annotation can have an associated text that is included in the database, the number of annotations is not limited and they can be shown and hidden individually.
Keywords stored into fields of records can be grouped in a hierarchic dictionary. It is possible to associate to each keyword a list of equivalent words (synonyms) or a list of related keywords. This structure helps to make the database accessible to people of various cultures or vocabulary.
Database access has been secured by various password levels to meet most of the security needs of a public access database. For each user, access to fields can be denied, read only or full rights, and every command in the database can be allowed or denied.
ImageBase-Pro v2 can be linked to optional modules meeting specific professional's needs :
• a Photo Library Management module provides all functions to deliver, invoice, rent and manage author rights…
• a Catalogue Edition module allows through a graphic editor the complete building and printing of selected thumbnails.
• the growing number of images in big databases can lead to an archiving bottleneck. The jukebox option allows to archive and retrieve images on optical disk jukebox.
